ITC Old Boys lament educational infrastructure in Kwara

The Old Boys of Sheik AbdulKadir College hitherto known as Ilorin Teachers College (ITC) have lamented the poor state of infrastructural development across schools in Kwara State.
The chairman of the association, Jimoh Aremu stated this Wednesday, in Ilorin during the 40th Anniversary of the “Unique 1977 Set” held at the school premises.
According to Aremu, the collapsed infrastructure in the school is a reflection of all public school facilities in the state, adding that former students should see themselves as partners in progress by complementing in efforts to improve education standard in the state.
He said it was sad that the school which was hitherto comparable to the first level standard schools in the state has degenerated over the years.
“The infrastructure like classrooms and many other beautiful structures we left behind are now death traps and gory sight. The present condition of learning environment will generally have impact on the performance and output of the students in terms of quality of results and personality”, he added.
He noted that the celebration of the 40th anniversary of their graduation was necessary not only for being the best opportunity to bring greater numbers of old students together for interaction among themselves but also to access the present condition of the school.
Speaking with Pilot Education, the Public Relations Officer of the set, Hon David Abu Ifabiyi said the decision to give back to the school was fallout of the visit embarked upon by the set to the school and the worrying state of its infrastructure.
He however said the set has resolved to look at other areas to improve the facilities at the school for better learning environment.
Projects commissioned included 10 new marker boards.
Present at the occasion were; former Commissioner for Education in the state, Hajia Halimat Yusuf, Permanent Member II, Teaching Service Commission, Hon Laroungbe Yusuf among others.
Those honoured include the 1977 principal, Mrs Raliat Sanni, other teachers of the set and present principal of Sheikh AbdulKadir College, Salihu Toyin.
