6. Obafemi Martins: Until recently, the top Nigerian scorer in Serie A history, Martins had to compete with some seriously talented players to forge a name for himself at Internazionale.
He registered 28 goals across 88 league games for the club, winning the 2006 Serie A title, before being sold to Newcastle United in the aftermath of the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hernan Crespo.
Martins was also a two-time Coppa Italia winner, netting in the 2006 final success over AS Roma.
5. Taribo West: The legendary Nigeria centre-back represented both Milan clubs, a feat that was also achieved by another African superstar on this list.
He initially signed for Inter following a successful spell with Auxerre, and then switched to AC Milan—briefly—midway through the 1999-2000 campaign.
10 months later, he had moved on to Derby County; his time at Europe’s genuine giants, although he did win a Uefa Cup with the Nerazzurri in 1998, defeating Lazio 3-0 in the final.
4. Achraf Hakimi: While there was confidence that Hakimi would be a success at Internazionale after signing from Real Madrid, few could have anticipated that he would have his hands on the Scudetto within 12 months.
The right-back has been in superb form for the Nerazzurri, making up for several failed title challenges with Borussia Dortmund by netting seven goals, contributing six assists as Inter have romped to the title.
He’s played his part in some tight clashes during the run-in, and his form has been so impressive that a return to Real Madrid is already being mooted in the media.
3. Sulley Muntari: The tenacious midfielder was handpicked for Inter Milan by Jose Mourinho after the Special One failed to land Frank Lampard from Chelsea.
While the Ghana international doesn’t quite have Lamps’ qualities, he was a success in Milan, winning the Champions League with the Nerazzurri in 2010.
He played his part during a successful period for the Italian giants, clinching back-to-back Serie A titles, two Italian Cups, and the Club World Cup some months after winning the UCL.
2. Nwankwo Kanu: An African legend, no doubt, although Kanu’s time at Internazionale didn’t truly live up to expectations.
He moved to Lombardy following a Champions League-winning spell at Ajax, and in the aftermath of his gold-medal triumph with Nigeria at the 1996 Olympics.
However, after being diagnosed with a heart defect ahead of the 1996-97 season, he was sidelined until April 1997.
He eventually departed for Arsenal after making just 12 league appearances for Inter, although he did win the Uefa Cup alongside West in 1998.
1. Samuel Eto’o: The greatest African to play for Inter, Eto’o was a key figure as the Nerazzurri clinched a historic treble under Jose Mourinho in 2009-10.
He adapted seamlessly to life in Italy after being discarded by Barcelona, and certainly appeared to have a point to prove as he tore up Serie A in Inter’s famous blue and black.
Unfortunately, only two years after signing for the Nerazzurri, he had moved on to Anzhi Makhachkala, arguably curtailing his time at the absolute top prematurely.
During his second season at Inter, he scored 21 in 35 league games, making the ESM Team of the Year in the process, but he surely could have achieved more in Italian football.
