Industrialisation: KWSG to set up Export Processing Zone

The Kwara State Government has concluded arrangements to set up Export Processing Zone in the state in its commitment to industrialise the state and generate employment for the teeming youths.
The state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed made this known in Ilorin on Tuesday while receiving the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian during a courtesy call at the Government House.
According to Ahmed, the zone is to house eight to 10 companies which will be fully owned by Chinese that are into power, textile and diary among other areas of specialisations.
The Governor stated further that preliminary work is on and necessary input had been put in place, saying that the investor had shown interest in the state.
He added that the zone would be set up based on Public and Private arrangements while expressing optimism that the zone would generate employment for residents of the state.
The Governor stated that emphasis would be put on agro-allied and textiles in order to open the state for growth and economic prosperity.
He also told the Chinese Ambassador about the special funding model of the state government and assured him of Kwara’s readiness to partner the Chinese government.
“As a government, we have worked out a special funding window to support infrastructure. So, we are ready to partner any Chinese company who understands our funding model.
The Governor, who emphasised that there are huge potentials for partnership in the state listed energy and agriculture as possible areas.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr Pingjian said the purpose of his visit was to partner the state government on industrialisation adding that the Chinese government in its Jourhanesburg summit made commitment to support Africa with $60billion for industrialisation.
He explained that the programme which started in 2016 was to last for three years, disclosing that $40billion of the total fund had been disbursed.
He therefore, sought for the state government’s partnership in order to effect growth and ensure economic prosperity for all categories of people.
