3 nabbed for burgling school, carting away N.9m equipment

Three suspects, Aminu Umaru, Awalu Abass and Abubakar Umar are cooling their feet in police net for allegedly burgling a school and carting away equipment worth N934,000.
The arrested persons alongside others who are at large, invaded Oyelagbanwo Grammar School situated in Ilala area of Ajase -Ipo, Kwara State, penultimate Saturday, Pilot Crime learnt.
They reportedly broke into the computer and chemistry laboratories of the school and made away with computer laptops, eight chargers and 12 cords.
A police source disclosed that luck ran out on the hoodlums during their second robbery operation at the school as they were arrested by the police.
“The robbers broke into the school and attacked the security guards in the premises before they carried out their operation. The security guards informed the school Principal, Agboola Kadir, who reported the case to the police at Ajase -Ipo division.
Investigation, according to the source, led to the arrest of one Babangida Saleh, who received the stolen items from the robbers.
“During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they conspired with one Abass and others now at large to burgle the school. They are also giving lead for the arrest of their accomplices.
” The investigation led to the arrest of Saleh who confessed to have received eight out of 10 computer laptops brought to him by Abubakar,” police source had revealed.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi denied knowledge of the case.
In a related development, four suspects have been arrested for breaking into a house in Kilanko area, Offa Garage, Ilorin, Kwara State penultimate Monday.
The suspects David Olaleye, Jamiu Munmini, Gani Usman and Iyabo Idowu, were said to have burgled a house belonging to one Faniyi Wale.
The suspects alongside their accomplices who are now at large, reportedly gained entrance into the house through the ceiling and made away with a plasma Television valued at N78,000.
One of the suspects was said to have been sighted with the television, which he hid inside a sack by a resident, who raised the alarm.
During interrogation at the police Area Command, the suspect reportedly revealed identities of his other gang members, leading to arrest of three others.
“The suspect revealed that the gang also carried out operation at Alagbado area. The confession led to the arrest of Jamiu and Ganiyu, who subsequently confessed that they had earlier robbed a motorcyclist of his motorcycle with registration number FUF125QA and stolen jelweries worth N235,000, which were handed over to Iyabo Idowu of Eyenkorin area.
“Iyabo was traced to her residence at Eyenkorin and part of the stolen jewelries were recovered. The investigation also revealed that the gang members are notorious criminals, who operate in areas such as Kilanko, Alagbado and Maraba among others.
“They confessed to have their base at Eyenkorin area and investigation is still ongoing for arrest of other members and to recover other stolen items,” the source added.
