Gov Ahmed throws support for Golf Academy

 

Kwara State governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed said he will give full support for the setting up of golf academy, which would produce professionals who will match other professionals in the world.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, made this known yesterday at the Golf Club Ilorin during its 5th golf tournament where he was decorated as the life vice chairman of the Professional Golfer of Nigeria.
The governor, who expressed delight that golf was now being given major attention, said the academy, when completed would make youths more active and see themselves in developmental programmes in golfing. According to him ‘ sporting is critical for youth development which will make them both physically and mentally alert.
Governor Ahmed explained that golf can be used for wealth creation in the country and urged stakeholders. And Nigerians to invest in the game.
‘As Nigerians, we must recognise efforts in sporting as well as understand the importance of golf in the society, investing in it will go a long way to boost economy as well as produce professionals who can match up with others in the world.
He added that he will continue to give supports to sports in the country especially in golf.
Earlier, the captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Alhaji Olayiwola Abdulmalik said golf would strategically open up ways for tourism in the state, adding that in the last few years Kwara state has done well in sporting activities.
While thanking the governor for efforts in making the state find its place in the annals of Nigeria sports, the captain said the just concluded Kwara open golf tournament was a success.
