KWSG approves reconstruction of stadium fence destroyed by rainstorm

 

The Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Alalade confirmed that the state government has approved the reconstruction of collapse fence damaged by rain storm few months ago at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Alalade made the confirmation on Wednesday while speaking with Pilot Sports on the latest developments concerning rain storm that destroyed the large portion of the stadium in March, 2018.

He noted that other facilities like electronic score board floodlights and other facilities will be fixed as soon as possible.

This medium was reliably informed that unidentified thieves raided the central Mosque located inside the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin carting away money contributed by people.

According to eye witness account, the money kept inside a box was removed by unidentified people suspected to be thieves.

Though, state Director of Sports, Coach Tunde Kazeem denied the report, saying that nobody, neither from his staff nor member of the mosque informed him of such incident.

Kazeem however reassured that adequate security have been put in place to protect the lives and property of the staff and shop owners at the premises.

Recalled that a heavy rainfall damaged a large portion of the Kwara Stadium Complex three months ago.

The downpour completely damaged the ultra-modern score board and the whole of western perimeter fence of the old wing of the main bowl.

It also affected the fence of Sultan Road, the indoor sports hall, the referee secretariat, offices and the office of a private security company (KSA Security), Joy Sports, Abdul Momoh Photo Studio among others.

The stadium hosted the 1985 National Sports Festival and several other important sports tournaments, such as the World Handball Championship in 1991 as well as many others.
