The Minister-in-Charge of Calvary Baptist Church, Ilorin the Kwara state capital, Reverend Francis Oladipo has charged Christians to exercise their civic right in the forthcoming general elections in the country.
The clergy man disclosed this in his Sunday sermon even as he quoted the book of Romans 9 verse 16 saying: “God has promised to show His mercy to those who obey”.
According to him, Christians must participate in the poll because God is interested in leadership.
He added that it is high time Christian change the attitude of sitting back at home during election and later complain of poor governance. He said everyone should participate in the voting process.
He however stressed that individuals should not longer be self-centered or trade his or her civic rights and future goals with monetary or material gains.
“Citizens must not be bought over or cajoled with money, our votes should count. It is high time we allowed the spirit of God to lead us wherever we want to vote.
“Don’t sit back and say your vote will not count. Do not join any anti-government group to destroy political system because of self will. Students should not go on rioting for any political lords, the consequence of such act is jail or death,” the clergy man disclosed.
In the same vein, he said Christians are to join political parties of their choice where they will be able to nurture their ambition.
“Register with your party of interest, strive to be a candidate, do not be involved in partisan politics, it is a civil servant, display servant leadership skill, have the fear of God and of the nation at heart and do not allow the name of God to be defiled through you,” Oladipo stressed.
