National Orientation Agency (NOA) has identified poor funding as one of the major challenges confronting the organisation in its aggressive drive to sensitise the Nigerian populace on government policies and programmes.
The Director of the agency in Kwara State, Segun Adeyemi, disclosed this at the weekend when he led his team on a courtesy visit to the management of a newly commissioned private Radio Station, Sobi FM, in Ilorin, the state capital.
He said NOA, which had metamorphosed from various stages since its establishment, came to being purposely to project Nigeria and enlighten the masses on governmental activities.
Adeyemi, however, decried a situation where the agency had been grappling with poor funding, saying this had hindered it from meeting some of its targeted goals.
He pleaded with the Federal Government to chart a new way in which the organisation can be adequately funded for its programmes and policies to be widely disseminated.
On the war against terrorism, the NOA Director explained that the Nigerian troops had practically decimated the capacity of the insurgents, pointing out that they had been able to reclaim territorial areas initially controlled by the terrorists.
Speaking on the anti-graft battle, Adeyemi said there was radical improvement in the effort to rid the country of corruption just as he maintained that the introduction of Treasury Single Account (TSA) is curbing wastages in public service.
He identified pervasive corrupt practices, prior to the advent of the present administration as the bane of development, assuring that the country would move forward if the menace can be permanently stemmed.
Adeyemi however urged the citizenry to change their attitude for the country to move to the next level of development.
The NOA boss congratulated the management of Sobi FM on the formal commissioning of the station and expressed the readiness of the agency to partner with the station.
Responding, the General Manager, Sobi FM, Segun Adeniji, dispelled the insinuation that the establishment of the station was politically motivated, insisting that the station had no business fraternising any political party.
He assured that the station would continue to project the activities of its immediate environment while calling for public support.
