Man killed by suspected cultists in Ilorin

There was tension among residents and shop owners at Olorunsogo, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State as three suspected cultists invaded the area yesterday and killed a young man simply identified as Abass, National Pilot reports.
It was learnt that the incident occurred around 4:15 pm while the victim was in the midst of his friends before he was shot at close range before being matcheted to death by his assailants.
After committing the crime, the suspects were said to have vacated the scene of the crime immediately.
According to a source who does not want his name in print, the suspects stormed the area in a tricycle (Keke NAPEP).
“The suspects who are three in number arrived Olorunsogo around 4pm and parked their ‘Keke NAPEP’ (tricycle) opposite SEAP table water company before crossing to the other side where they met Abass sitting and chatting with his friends behind one bean cake seller.
“They held him and subsequently shot him in the head before using machete on his body. Within few minutes they were done and they headed in the direction of Mandate,” the source divulged.
Also speaking, another eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the entire area was deserted as soon as the suspects shot at the victim adding that it was after they left their target in the pool of his blood that people gathered to wail over the incident.
“After some minutes, the family of the deceased arrived the scene to evacuate the remains of their son. Afterwards, the policemen were around to interrogate residents of the area.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he is yet to be briefed on any such incident.
“Let me contact the Divisional police station covering the jurisdiction to confirm it and I will get back to you,” Okasanmi said.
The PPRO however did not return the call or send any text message to our reporter on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
