Kwara T/tennis team shines at Commonwealth trials in Lagos
Kwara State Team have won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the just concluded National Table Tennis Championship and Commonwealth trials held in Lagos.
Rofiat Jimoh picked gold in the female junior singles beating Sukurat Aiyelabegan also from Kwara State in the final.
The pairs of Sukurat Aiyelabegan and Zainab Summer won gold for the State in the female junior doubles.
Hajarat AbdulMumuni went home with bronze in the paralymics class one to three women singles, Iyanu Falana and Rofiat Jimoh won bronze in the junior doubles event while Jawondo Awwal and Jamiu Ayanwale won the last bronze for the State in the Boys junior doubles.
No fewer than 24 states and eight Clubs ?took part in the five days pin pon championship.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Table Tennis Coach, Kehinde Aiyelabegan has been elected as the Chairman of the Table Tennis Coaches Association of Nigeria while Alfa Abdulkadir Kadir of State was elected as the Public Relations Officer of the Association.
In a related deaths development, North Central U-13 Football team parading five Kwara State players have won the Nigeria Football Federation\Zenith future Super Eagles Tournament in Kano.
The team defeated their South West counterpart five-three through penalties after regulation time ended one-one.
The Coach of the side, Tajudeen Fawuyi from Kwara State was voted as the best coach of the tournament.
Receiving the Athletes in Ilorin, the State Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem thanked the players for their brilliant performance and for doing the State proud in the two tournaments.
Mallam Kazeem stated that the State government would continue to give necessary support to sports development calling on individuals and Corporate organizations to assist in sponsoring Athletes to achieve their heart desire.
NFF names Ikpeba, Adepoju, Okocha, ACC, others in new c’ttee
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the members of the body’s standing committees on Wednesday, with some interesting personalities included.
The committee members were announced in a press release from the NFF on Wednesday.
NFF’s standing committees were dissolved on Monday, 30 October, while the chairmen and vice chairmen of the committees were named a few days after.
All the members and secretaries have now been revealed.
Ex-internationals Mutiu Adepoju, Garba Lawal and Victor Ikpeba are in the Technical Committee, while top comedian Akpobome Atuyota aka Ali Baba is in the Marketing, Sponsorship and TV Rights Committee headed by League Management Committee Chairman Shehu Dikko.
Several sports journalists are included in the Media and Publicity Committee, while Ayo Omidiran heads the Women’s Football Committee.
Former Super Eagles stars Austin Jay Jay Okocha and Victor Agali are included in the Technical Study Group.
In all, 20 committees were named, some having as many as 16 members.
