Day old baby dismembered in Ilorin

Residents of Ondoko, Okelele area of Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, Saturday morning woke up to discover the body of a dismembered day old baby beside a gutter in the community.
The lifeless body of the baby boy was discovered with some parts missing raising suspicion that he may have been dumped in the area by suspected ritualists.
When our reporter visited the scene, the baby’s remains appeared to have been cooked with his left hand, leg and private part discovered to have been removed and the body covered with black cloth with the touch of red.
Scores of residents of the area were also noticed catching glimpse of the lifeless body of the baby.
Speaking with our reporter, a resident of the community, who does not want his name in print said the dumped body was discovered around 5:30 am on Saturday while some Muslims were heading to mosque for dawn (Subhi) prayer.
“We discovered a strange black cloth and decided to move closer to uncover what could be hidden underneath. To our utmost surprise, we found the lifeless body of a baby there.
โWe raised the alarm to the community head and other residents of our area and they all came out en mass. We were all left in a state of confusion but we have since contacted the “C” Division police station, Oja-Oba to come and rescue the situation.โ
He added that on arrival, the policemen gathered information and subsequently left with the remains of the baby.
Our reporter was later informed that the lifeless body has been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the development adding that some officers were deployed to the scene immediately they got wind of the incident.
โI will like to urge residents of the state to always contact the police anytime they noticed suspicious movements or strange developments. I can assure them all that the police will take necessary action to ensure their safety,โ he stated adding that security of lives and property should not be left in the hands of security agencies alone.
