Go Round edge Kwara Utd in NNL Super 4 Opener

Go Round FC beat Kwara United 4-2 on penalties in the opening fixture of the Bet9ja Nigeria National League Super Four competition at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.

The Omoku club will face the winners of Heartland versus Remo Stars game in the final of the competition at the same venue on Tuesday.

The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and penalties were needed to separate both teams.

Kwara United’s Kelechi Mbonu had the first real chance of the game in the 20th minute but his shot went agonisingly wide.

The Harmony Boys carved out another chance five minutes later but Michel Olanu’s effort was saved by Nwanbili Stanley.

John Obuh’s men sustained the momentum, piling more pressure on their opponents but were unable to get the curtain raiser.

They were however lucky not to go behind on the half hour mark when Adelani Adeseun’s shot went narrowly wide with Jonah Usman well beaten.

The tempo of the game slowed down after the break with both teams struggling to create any meaningful openings.

Tragedy was averted in the 62nd minute when Kwara United’s defender Lookman Binuyo slumped after the ball hit him in the face but was quickly revived by the club’s medics.

Go Round later took control of the game but were let down by poor decision-making in the final third minutes.

The game went into penalties at the end of 90 minutes with Go Round carrying the day after converting all four spot kicks and Kwara United scoring only two.
