2017: NSCDC prosecutes 25 suspects

In a bid to curtailed criminal activities in the state, the Kwara state Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has prosecuted 25 suspects who were engaged in various crimes in the year 2017.

Other activities recorded by the Corps includesย ย recovery of two stolen vehicles, adulterated petrol tanker and pipeline vandalisation equipment, as well as 70 bags of raw coal by culprits.

Speaking to Pilot Crime, the NSCDC Kwara Commandant, Adeyinka Fasiu, on Friday, stressed that the command during its operations last year was able to prosecute some criminals and recovered the exhibits noted above.

The Commandant who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the command, Henry Bilesanmi, said โ€œbetween January to December 2017, we clamped down on robbery activities, cultism, illegal mining, kidnapping, black marketing and illegal oil blending among others.

The spokesperson who gave the records said ” we arrested and prosecuted some suspected cultists on January 6, 2017. Also, four armed robbers were paraded from a tipoff information around Kulende area on 13th of same month.

“Another set of criminal were arrested for burglary activities around โ€˜Sunday Sunday Marketโ€™ Ilorin on 23rd of January. While two petrol trucks loaded with adulterated product were intercepted along Tanke area of Ilorin.

โ€œWe exposed the activities of illegal miners along Odonigi area of Moro Local Government of the stateย ย and about 70 bags of raw coal were recovered from them on April 4th. The Department of State Security (DSS) handed over to us a wine coloured Mistibushi car with Lagos registration number (Lagos) BT 613 APP and a Nissan including a generator set recovered from hoodlums on April 7th.

According to him the corps uncovered and sealed an illegal oil station along Sobi road and a suspect was arrested to the effect on June 4th. Adding that the command arrested and handed over to Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) one Suleiman Agaka and two culprits who were caught in rebranding of old tire and selling to motorists on 4th October.

He said “we arrested fake medical doctor involved in job racketeering led to job seekers in NSCDC on 23rd October. While two suspected kidnappers and child abusers were paraded on November 10th.

Bilesanmi noted that the command has beenย ย curtailing oil marketers sharp practices such black marketing, under dispensing, hoarding, sales above official prices among others since October last year to date across Ilorin metropolis.

He added that the command has also intervened in 18 clashed between herdsmen and farmers across the state in which property worth N12 millions were destroyed.

 


…arrests Fulani herdsmen for destroying farmlands in Kwara

The Kwara state command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) last Thursday arrested a Fulani herdsman, Abdulhakeemย ย Sulaimanย ย for destroying three different plots of land belonging to Mr. Ogundele Idowu, Babalola Idowu and another farmer whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filling this report.

The suspect, Sulaman, was arrested at Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State where the three farms are situated, last Thursday.

It was gathered that the suspect with his cows invaded those farms and destroyed some of their farm product.

Speaking to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Henry Bilesanmi on the development, he said ” the suspect invaded the farms with his cattle and destroyed the crops.

โ€œWe arrested the herdsman immediately the affected owners of the farms reported the case to our outpost on Thursday at Oke-Ero area of Kwara state.

“We have prosecuted the herdsman and he has agreed to pay compensation of N21,000 to theย ย farmers.

In a similar vein, the commandโ€™s Spokesman revealed that they have paraded some suspected Fulani herdsmen for destroying farmland along Faagba community in Kwara state.

He stressed that the criminal activities of the herdsmen the attack on them by the community but it was the intervention of some elders and security personnel that checked the situation.

He urged the public to always report criminal activities to the command for necessary action thereby ensuring peaceful coexistence in the state.
