Kwara tipper drivers debunks double taxation of members

 

The Tippers and Quarry Employers of Nigeria, Kwara state Chapter, has debunked the allegations that the leadership is conniving with state government to exploit members through double taxation.

Speaking to Pilot Business on Friday, the Kwara state Chairman of the Union, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Mogaji said “the state government have engaged them to collect revenue to have a seamless operations and cooperation from their members.

“We have been remitting about N1,220,000 to the state government on monthly basis. Though, we have tabled the complaints of our members in respect of the economic situation in the state.

“But as a responsible union we still pay N1.2 million to clear the outstanding debt and we have maintained a cordial relationship with the government. So there is nothing like double taxation.

The Chairman assured that the union will continue to play its role by encouraging members to pay their tax in order to boost revenue generation.

In her reaction, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Mrs Habibah Aiyelabegan said agency was fully aware of the revenue collectionย  activities of the union.

She explained that the union was engaged by Kwara State Ministry of Industry and Solid Mineral to assist in revenue collection for their members on behalf of government.

Efforts to get the state Commissioner of Industry and solid minerals, Ahmed Al-Hassan to speak on the issue, proved abortive as calls toย  his mobile phones did not connectย  at the time of filing this report.
