Newspaper of the Year Award: Kwara NUJ applauds N’Pilot for being voice of the voiceless, leading light

As adoration and adulation continued to trail the award given to National Pilot Newspaper by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Chapter, has described the publication as the voice of the voiceless while also calling on its publisher and other well-meaning Nigerians for unyielding support to the medium.
This appeal was made by the Chairman of NUJ, Mallam Abiodun Abdulkareem during a congratulatory visit to the Corporate Headquarters of the medium along Asa Dam Road, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Abdulkareem stated that the award given to the medium is well deserved and long overdue.
The NUJ Chairman said, “Honestly, we commend you for your leadership and the discipline you instil here. Here in National Pilot, you are giving them the required training and discipline so that they can be real professionals. And we have really seen that those of us that have left this place, are also making waves, progressing and making impact wherever they found themselves.
“I am very sure that when the funding increases which I am using this medium to call on the publisher, well-meaning Nigerians and other stakeholders in the media industry to give you the necessary support so that you can lift journalism profession to a great height in the country,” the NUJ Chairman submitted.
He however prayed that God should continue to give the MD/Editor-in-Chief of the medium, Alhaji Billy Adedamola the wherewithal to take the newspaper to the next level.
In his remarks, Adedamola expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the NUJ for their continued support.
He said, “There is no gain without pain. We go the extra mile to get exclusive stories. And we thank God that the society is appreciating our efforts.
“A lot of people have worked here but do not key in into my modus operandi thinking I was too harsh. The recent awards we have received in this organisation is a pointer to the fact that we are getting it right,” he stated even as he described the medium as a major beneficiary under the present NUJ leadership in the state.
Similarly, the Editor of the medium, Mrs. Christie Doyin said, “I feel so elated that the NUJ is felicitating with us. You have always been there for us, therefore we hold you in high esteem,” she enthused.
In her remarks, the General Editor, Mrs. Joke Adeniyi-Jackson opined that the success achieved by the medium was not by sudden flight.
Also commenting, Head Politics, Mumini Abdulkareem, added that the recognition by the umbrella body of journalists is a further attestation that the medium is on the right track.
On the entourage of the NUJ Chairman is the Secretary of the association, Babatunde Gimba, Secretary Correspondents Chapel, Abdulwahab Umar and Mallam Abubakar Owolabi.
