KWSG begins road show on ‘C of O’, takes campaign to markets

In a bid to make statutory Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) procurement accessible and cheaper to the citizens, the Kwara State Government has embarked on awareness campaign to the various markets and major roads within Ilorin metropolis.
The sensitisation team led by the Director-General, Alhaji Ibrahim Salman and other employees of the Bureau of Lands were yesterday noticed sensitising the populace from one location to the other distributing flyers across the metropolis.
Speaking with our reporter, Salman said, โthe land titling scheme became necessary for the government to encourage more people to enrol for land ownership at lesser cost.
“The document will secure property owners from incessant attack from customary land owners and remove difficulties in using property as collateral due to non availability of titles.โ
According to him subscribers of the scheme can convincingly be certified as rightful owners of property.
The DG explained that residents can apply for the document by obtaining application form at any designated sales point for a non-refundable fee of N5, 000.
He added that the requirements for the acquisition of C of O include; purchase agreement, building plan, receipts of payment, customary right of occupancy, among others.
The DG stressed the Bureau will work with town planning, surveyors and other agencies in subsidising the C of O to allow more people benefit.
Areas visited included; Yoruba Road, Post Office, Challenge, Obbo road, Ibrahim Taiwo and Unity road.
