The Kwara State Directorate of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has so far captured no fewer than 500,000 residents of the state.
The state Coordinator of NIMC. Alhaji Abeeb Olumoh disclosed this on Friday during a sensitisation programme at the National Orientation Agency office, Fate road, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
According to him, the numbers of Kwara residents that have registered so far fall short of the population of the state.
“As of today, we have captured half a million applicants in Kwara State, though in slow pace. At least, there is an improvement compared to what is obtained at the beginning.”
Olumoh added that the commission has about 23 outlets and offices in the state with only 10 functional offices in 10 Local Government Area of the state.
He used the forum to educate the participants on the multiple benefits of National Identity cards adding that it reduces the duplication of bio data of applicants.
Part of the benefits of having the National Identity Card according to him is the opportunity to make cash transactions anywhere in the world, stressing that it could be used in curtailing ghost workers problem.
Speaking, the Chairman of National Orientation Agency, Mr. Segun Adeyemi said there is the need for collaboration with NIMC in order to sensitise the public on the importance of National identity cards.
“I think this seminar is apt and timely. The NIMC boss has done justice to all most nutty revelation about the scheme, and I think the purpose for the seminar has been achieved,” Adeyemi said.
The Federal Government in its bits to have all Nigerians captured in a database initiated a National Identity Management Commission with offices in all the state capital across the country including Kwara State.
