Man arrested with fake naira notes in Ilorin

Men of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (F-SARS) , Kwara State Police Command have arrested a suspect, Yakubu Yahaya for allegedly being in possession of fake N1,000 notes in Ilorin, penultimate Friday.
Pilot Crime learnt that Yahaya, who hails from Auchi, Edo State alongside his accomplice specialised in counterfeiting Naira notes.
According to police source, the suspect and other members of his syndicate had been circulating fake N1,000 Naira notes through business transactions.
However, luck was said to have ran out on the suspect on the fateful day when he was caught while trying to purchase fruit with fake naira note.
Yahaya and one of his accomplices, reportedly approached a fruit seller, simply identified as Khadija and tendered the counterfeit currency for items purchased.
“The trader, upon close scrutiny of the money discovered it was fake and raise the alarm that attracted passers-by and people within that vicinity.
“The police was alerted over the incident and promptly responded. The suspects took to their heels on sighting the security agents and were given a hot chase. Yahaya was apprehended while his accomplice escaped,” the source narrated further.
It was further learnt that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation by the police.
“During interrogation at the F-SARS office, Yahaya confessed to the crime, adding that he is a member of a group that specialise in counterfeiting Nigerian currency.
“He confessed to have counterfeited about 37 million naira, which was sold to a certain Alhaji in Abuja. The police are already on the trail of the buyer, “the source added.
When contacted, the state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he did not have knowledge of the case.
