Hard Drugs: 2 jailed for 10yrs in Ilorin

A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, last Thursday, sentenced two convicted drug peddlers; Abubakar Abba and Tahiru Abubakar to 10 years imprisonment each with hard labour.
The culprits were charged before Justice N.I Afolabi in October, 2017 for illegal transaction and intake of hard drugs, offence which contravened the Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the separate judgements delivered by the trial judge, cannabis which is also known as India hemp and10 grams of Tramador were recovered from Abba.
He further stressed that through the help of a staff of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lawal Oyedele, the contraband drugs were sent to a laboratory in Lagos for forensic investigation.
The judge stated that the offence attract life imprisonment adding that though Abba is a first time offender but he has failed to show remorsefulness over sins he committed against the law.
Afolabi in his judgement, described Abubakar as an unrepentant and hardened criminal. According to him, Abubakar is not a first offender.
He said the culprit confessed that he started taking India hemp at the age of 18.
“The culprit is not a first time offender; he knows the consequence of dealing in hard drugs but he continued unabated. He’s an unrepentant and hardened criminal, the offence carries life imprisonment,โ Afolabi said.
He however sentenced the two convicts to two years imprisonment.
