2018 NYG: NSC vows to punish non-participating states

National Sports Commission has vowed to punish any state that fail to participate in the forthcoming 2018 National Youth Games (NYG), hosting by University of Ilorin (Unilorin).

The youth games scheduled to hold from 6th to 17th of September 2018 will be hosted by Unilorin for the third time in a role.

Director, Grassroots Sports Development, NSC Dr. Demola Are gave the warning in Ilorin last week during a technical section meeting after an inspection of facilities to be used for the tournament,

Are revealed that non-participating states will pay a fine of N2.5m while any state registered but failed to show up will be fined N5m, as part of rules and regulations of the competition.

The organiser also warned that any state that bring over age player will be punished accordingly, saying that the competition is strictly for athletes below 15 years.

NSC However said the technical committee is satisfied with the 55% of the facilities inspected in Ilorin.

Among the facilities inspected are Unilorin, Kwara Stadium, Ilorin Golf Club, Kwara Football Academy and Ilorin Club.

More than 2,000 athlete participated in 2017 week-long games that is expected to feature more than 15 events.
