Husband seeks dissolution of marriage to ‘talkative wife’

A middle-aged man, Wasiu Saka has approached the Upper Area Court in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for the dissolution of his 8 years marriage with his wife, Bunmi, who he alleged is a talkative.
Saka through the application dated 14th May, 2018 also based his reason for the dissolution on the dishonest attitude of his partner and the fact that she also steals.
He noted that his family and that of his wife had on several occasions warned Bunmi to desist from acts which according to him could result in public disgrace to his family.
Saka, in his application before the court further sought to take custody of his three children; a male twins and a female.
He said, “In view of this, I want this honourable court to dissolve our marriage and to order her to release my children in her custody so as not to emulate their mother’s character.”
But, in the counterclaim of the defendant, through his counsel; Adekunle Ajayi, she sought the custody of the children as well as N50,000 monthly for their upkeep.
The counsel also filed a preliminary objection to the jurisdiction of the on the grounds; ‘that the court lacks the requisite jurisdiction to entertain the suit against the defendant/application in view of the fact that she is not of the Islamic faith.
She however prayed the court to strike out the suit or alternatively order that it should be transferred to court of competent jurisdiction.
The matter will however be coming up at the Upper Area Court on 28th June, 2018 for hearing of the preliminary objection.
