All is not well in the camp of kwara state at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games, holding in Asaba , Delta State as athletes representing the state are reportedly locked in a showdown with the Executive chairman of the state sports commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji over allowances short payment.

The athletes are demanding full payment of their allowances from the State Government

Reports filtering out of the Asaba camp say the aggrieved athletes have held an emergency meeting where they have now decided to stage a protest and embarrass the state if the government representatives continue to play smart on them.

The athletes alleged that they were paid N65,000 as allowances for participants by Mogaji instead of N80,000 approved by the government

The angry athletes claimed Magaji who led them to Asaba has eloped to an undisclosed destination and his line has been unreachable but the Atheletes are not ready to compromise their position . They claimed that the allowance, which ought to have been paid before they leave home was delayed so that the government agents can benefit from their sweats

However, Mogaji in his reaction dismissed the alleged short pay as rubbish.

Speaking exclusively to National Pilot, Mogaji said all the allowances of the athletes have been paid as when due.

“What happened is that during the last Youth Games they were paid N80,500. And they are demanding the same amount now. But I explained to them that they were paid such then because they spent 13 days at the camp. At N6,500 per day, the total amount due to an athlete in 13 days then was N80,500.

” However, this time around, the athletes are spending 10 days at the camp. At N6,500 per day, the total amount due to an athlete is N65, 500. I even promised to add to that when we return to Ilorin, but unfortunately they chose to blackmail me and start pushing misleading and utter falsehood to the media. I’m having a meeting with them this evening “,he said.
