Assembly Service Commission underway in Kwara

A bill for a law to amend the Kwara State House of Assembly Service Commission has passed through first reading at the floor of the House.
The Motion was moved by the House Leader Hon. Hassan Oyeleke and was seconded by member representing Malete/Ipaiye/Oloru Constituency, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed.
The Deputy Speaker, Chief Mathew Okedare who presided over Thursday’s sitting, while calling the Clerk of the House, Alh. Ahmed Katsina Mohammed to read the bill, for the first time, directed the House Committee on Rules and Business to slate the bill for further legislative process.
It would be recalled that both the National and State Houses of Assembly had passed financial autonomy for the state legislature in the constitutional amendment and was recently assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad had on several occasions, expressed confidence that financial autonomy for state legislature will among other things strengthen the nation’s democratic governance in the country.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned for a week, for members to mobilise their constituents for collection of Permanent Voter’s Card from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to enable them, perform their civic responsibilities in next year’s General Elections.
The Leader of the House, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, while moving Motion for adjournment, said the need became expedient in view of the outcry of INEC that many PVCs were yet to be collected by eligible voters across the state.
