How Offa Poly cultists were arrested – Police sources

 

More fact have emerged on how students of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State were arrested for cultism last week.

It was gathered that the forceful initiation of a student of the institution into Aiye confraternity, led to the arrest of the cult members.

According to a source, a student (names withheld) reported to the police that he was forcefully initiated into secret cult by four suspected cultists namely Temitope Nathaniel Omotayo, Adewusi Vincent, Ayomide Ololade and Tajudeen Selim of the same institution.

A police source who confirmed the development said operatives of the Anti-Cult Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department of the command swung into action and stormed the institution where the suspected cultists were arrested along with three others.

Also arrested were Olanipekun Abimbola, Akinsebikan George and Gbolahan Ogunleye.

Recovered from the scene of arrest were red and white regalia of Aiye secret cult confraternity with inscription of No 7 and Neo Black Movement (NBM), two razor blades, Calabash and one live cartridge.

It was gathered that during interrogation of the suspected cult members at the state police headquarters in Ilorin, it was revealed that they were initiated between 2007 and 2018 respectively.

The police source disclosed that the suspects had also during interrogation confessed to have forcefully initiated the student (names withheld).

The police source further revealed that during investigation, the suspects confessed to have forcefully initiated the student in question (name witheld) into Aiye secret cult.

“Temitope Nathaniel confessed to be highest ranking member of the cult group while he is deputised by Tajudeen Selim and Adewusi Vincent.

“They further confessed that all the recovered items are instruments used for initiation of new members. Investigation is ongoing for arrest of other cult members in the institution,” he added.

He further said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the case is concluded.

Recall that the state Command last week Tuesday alerted the public on the plan by secret cult groups to launch attacks to mark 7/7/2018.
