Unilorin elects first ever-medical student as SUG President

For the first time in the 43-year-old existence of the institution, a medical student, Animashaun Oluseyi Emmanuel, has emerged the Students Union Government (SUG) President of the University of Ilorin.
Animashaun, a 500Level Medicine and Surgery student last Thursday, topped the list valiantly with over 5,000 votes, giving him the unquestionable leverage to be elected as president.
The College of Health Sciences was agog with celebration and an indescribable feeling of pride due to the fact that the medical students have often felt been sidelined and marginalised in the central affairs of studentsโ government.
The election was however not without hiccups as the Sub-dean of the Students Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu was reported to have announced a wrong winner as President.
In a letter written to the management by the aggrieved students of the university, they alleged that the earlier acclaimed winner does not have the required CGPA to run for the office of the president.
They also faulted the announcement of the winner of the poll at a time the voting portal still reads 7hours 12 minutes to go, adding that the result earlier announced did not match the number of eligible voters, among other allegations.
