Int’l Youth Day: Saraki reiterates commitment to employment opportunities

In commemoration of the International Youth Day celebration, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has restated the commitment of the National Assembly to providing job opportunities for the nation’s teeming youths.
August 12 is celebrated as International Youth Day by the United Nations to draw attention towards youths development and protection of problem areas such as education, environment, employment as well as inter-generational denominations.
According to UN, the theme of this year’s celebration is; ‘Safe spaces for youth’.
While felicitating with the youth on the occasion, Saraki in a tweet yesterday, wrote, “Today, on #InternationalYouthDay, I join the world in celebrating the contributions of our young people to the development of our nation. While also acknowledging their power and immense potential, we reiterate our commitment to creating more opportunities for all our youth.”
Meanwhile, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Lagos, Strategy for Maturity Initiative and Leadership Empowerment (SMILE) has called for an enabling environment to help youths develop themselves and contribute to national development.
President of the group, Mrs Bimpe Bamgbose-Martins stated this while also expressing delight over the urgency with which the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guteress is addressing issues bothering on youths. She urged youths to challenge every excuse and not lose hope in seeking new opportunities and embracing entrepreneurship as a viable option to address unemployment.
