A philanthropist and Chairman of Olamus Foundation, Olanrewaju Mustapha Babareke has called for a review of curriculum in the Nigerian education sector.
Babareke stated this on Saturday during the Ramadan lecture organised by his foundation, while also urging all stakeholders to rise up to the challenge in combating factors that are inimical to the development of youths in the society.
According to him, the review of education curriculum is imperative because the present one being used by schools is no longer effective for the present generation.
“Nigeria’s education system is dysfunctional, disconnected and this is due to our inability to change with time. The curriculum we use now belongs to the industrial era but we are now in the period of information technology,” Olarewaju stressed.
Speaking on the topic; ‘Poverty and social vices eradication in Islam’, a lecturer at the department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Yusuf Abubakar charged the youth against idleness and social vices.
He said youths should desist from all forms of hooliganism, thuggery, kidnapping and killings.
The lecturer stressed further that communities should create rehabilitation centres that will serve as rehabilitation homes for youths who may have suffered setbacks due to drugs abuse and other negative acts.
