My most dramatic day in court

Dr. Dada Adeyemi Ariyoosun gained admission to study Law at the University of Ilorin in 1995 and subsequently graduated in 2000. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2001 and was called to Bar in 2002. He had his National Youth Service Corpse (NYSC) programme in Katsina, Katsina State. Afterwards, he commenced pupilage with Kayode Olatoke & Co. based in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. After some years of mentorship, he set up his own firm; Ariyoosun & Co. Crown Chambers in the state capital in 2006. He however shares with KAYODE ADEOTI, his most memorable moment in the profession. Excerpts:
The day of my first appearance in court was very dramatic and memorable. Then, I was still with my boss, Kayode Olatoke & Co. On this fateful day, he gave me files with the instruction that I should go to Omu-Aran the next day for two cases. I thought he was only joking. The following day, I expected that he would join me for the trip; even when I got to the court in Omu-Aran, I was still expecting that he will come and meet me. But, little did I know that I was on my own. When it was 9.am, the judge entered, my boss was nowhere to be found, this time, I have realised that I needed to brace up. I laughed within myself wondering why my boss would give me two files to handle with my age in the Bar.
However, when the case was mentioned, my heart beat faster, wondering how to present the matter. Well, I announced my appearance, a very senior member of the bar was on the opposing side, he announced his too. Ordinarily, the case was a simple one and it was just for mention but because I was appearing for the first time, I was shivering. I thought heaven would fall. Afterwards, I told the court that the case was just for mention and sought for an adjournment. The judge however asked the counsel on the other side if he has objection. He responded that he doesn’t have any. And that was how it was settled; the court consequently adjourned the case.
