3 remanded over alleged vandalisation of electric cables in Ilorin

The Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Tuesday remanded one Ibrahim Ismail and Babangida Ibrahim over alleged vandalisation of electric cables.

The accused persons were dragged before Magistrate Mohammed Aluko for criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, mischief, theft contrary to Section 97, 348, 326 and 286 of Penal Code law and tampering with electrical plant, works etc, Section (9) of the miscellaneous offence act Cap M17 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

According to Police First Information Report (FIR), one Ibrahim Ismail and Babangida Ibrahim both of Majekasurawa area, Ilorin were on 1st September, 2018 at about 0700hrs arrested for trespass and vandalisation of electric cables, including industrial meters from the premises of the Kwara State Water Corporation located at Eyenkorin road, Ilorin.

The FIR says that the case was transferred on 3rd of September, 2018 from Afon Division, Ilorin to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for discreet investigation.

During the course of investigation the accused persons confessed to the crime and said they sold the cable to one Nasiru Yakubu also of Majekasurawa area, Ilorin.

Yakubu confessed that both Ismail and Ibrahim use to sell other cables to him. The cables vandalised from the premises of the office of the Kwara State Water cooperation which led to the arrest was bought by Yakubu at the rate of N8,000.00.

However, the prosecutor, Insp. James Odaudu prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody as effort is still on to recover some of the stolen properties.
