Again, Team Delta subdued 32 others that participated at the 4th National Youth Games which ended at the University of Ilorin on Sunday, claiming a total of 67 medals comprising 27gold, 24 silver and 16 bronze.
New entrants, Lagos State finished second with 60 medals, comprising 23 good, 15silver and 22 bronze.
Team Bayelsa placed third with 11 gold, seven silver and 16 bronze, making a total of 34 medals.
Ogun State also placed third with 11 gold, seven silver and 16 bronze medals
AkwaIbom despite claiming 46 medals, comprising nine gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze finished Fifth.
Sixth position was clinched by Team Abia who garnered seven gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.
Osun placed seventh with seven gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals, while Oyo were eight position with six gold two silver and 11 bronze medals.
Ninth position went to hosts Kwara with five gold, nine silver and four bronze medals.
Rivers State finished 10th with five gold, seven silver and 14 bronze medals, while FCT with four gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals were 11th
Twelfth position went to Gombe State with four gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.
Team Kaduna placed thirteenth with four good, four silver and three bronze medals.
Edo State placed 14th with four gold, Plateau, 15th with three gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.
Anambra got three gold, four silver and seven bronze medals, to claim 16th position, 17th position went to Borno with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals, Kano finished 18th with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals, while Bauchi were 19th with two gold, two silver and two bronze.
The Confluence State Kogi, finished 20th on the table with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Food Basket State Benue, were 21st with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals, Ekiti got one gold and three bronze to finish 22nd position and Enugu State placed 23rd with one gold and one bronze.
Sokoto State claimed one gold medal to finish 24th, Taraba got two silver and one bronze to finish 25th, while Imo got one silver and two bronze to finish 26th.
Katsina got one silver and one bronze to place 27th, Niger with thee bronze placed 28th and Adamawa got one bronze to place 29th.
Other states, Cross River, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe and Zamfara all failed to get any medals, to place 30th
In an address at the closing ceremony, Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, represented by Professor Sylvia Malomo, rep of VC Unilorin said he was happy that they were happy about the success recorded.
He said that the institution would always improve on its facilities.
The VC wished all participants a safe journey back to their respective destinations.
…Kwara Volleyball team beats Kaduna to win Gold
Team Kwara were lucky to stroll away with the female volleyball gold at the 4th National Youth Games in Ilorin, claiming a 3-2 win over Team Kaduna.
The tension soaked game saw the hard fighting Team Kaduna girls come from two sets down to level up at 2-2.
Kwara took the first two sets, after Kaduna star player was demoralised and harassed by Kwara officials, who were looking for an easy win.
Naomi, who is just 14 years, was intimidated rudely, a development that saw her play badly, a situation Kwara took advantage of in the first two sets.
It would be recalled that during the semifinal between Kaduna and Rivers, the Kwara team, looking for an easy opponent, went all out, supporting and cheering Rivers.
Team Kaduna went on to thrash Rivers 3-0.
…how we disqualified 400 athletes – Are
The Director of Grassroots Sports Development, Dr. Demola Are has unequivocally revealed to www.bsnsports.com.ng that four hundred (400) athletes were disqualified from participating in the 2018 National Youth Games.
He admitted that over five hundred athletes were disqualified during the screening exercise but some of them were readmitted by the Local Organising Committee after screening when they presented documents to corroborate the athletes age claims.
“Over 500 athletes were disqualified from participating in this year’s national youth games but some of them were readmitted by the Local Organising Committee when they were able to prove with necessary documents the age claims of the athletes.”
“So, four hundred athletes were disqualified from participating in the 4th national youth games.” He concluded.
