Tension in Abuja as two fighter jets crash
Two fighter jets have crashed in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. The Nigerian Airforce has confirmed that its aircraft taking part in rehearsals for Nigeriaโs 58 independence anniversary has crashed in Abuja
A statement by Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, Director of Public Relations and Information saidโ, โI wish to confirm an air incident involving 2 Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations. โI thank God no nobody died.

Military sources said that the crash occurred at the Mpape district of Abuja which is adjacent to Maitama district. It would be recalled that similar incident occured in Yola some years ago and the Nigerian Airforce attributed the crash of its F7-Ni fighter aircraft which crashed killing the pilot, to bad weather and not enemy attack.
The then Chief of Air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has instituted an investigation panel to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the crash. A statement detailing the development signed by Air Commodore Dele Alonge, Director, Airforce Public Relations said, โA Nigerian Air Force (NAF801) F7-Ni fighter jet returning to the base from an interdicted mission crashed due to bad weather and not under enemy fire around Hong, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State at about 16.23hrs (4.23 pm).
โThere was no survival as the pilot of the aircraft lost his life in the unfortunate incidentโ. โMeanwhile, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal SB Abubakar has set up an investigation panel to unravel the remote and immediate causers) of the accident.
