Isaac Promise: Tributes pour in after ex-Int’l dies at 31
American professional football team Austin Bold have announced the tragic and untimely death of former Nigeria international Isaac Promise.
According to the USL Championship club, the 31-year-old former Super Eagles star died on Wednesday night, October 2, after a reported case of heart failure.
He was said to have gone to gym in US before he collapsed and died after heart failure.
After spending 12 seasons in the Turkish Super Lig, Isaac Promise joined American side Austin Bold in August 2018 becoming the club’s seventh signing in history.
Until his death, Promise Isaac played professional football for 14 seasons where he played for clubs like Trabzonspor, Manisaspor, Antalyaspor, Al Ahli among others.
He first appeared for the Super Eagles in 2009 and Isaac Promise earned three caps and scored one goal.
Promise scored a total of 77 club goals during his career before he died.
He was captain of the Nigeria side that won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after losing to Argentina in the final.
Promise played in Turkey for the majority of his career, and featured in the same Trabzonspor side as Anton Ferdinand.
The former West Ham defender wrote on Instagram: “I’m in shock. You were my roommate at Antalyaspor.
“RIP Isaac Promise. Rest well bro my prayers are with your family and friends at this time.”
Also, the minister of youths and sports, Sunday Dare has described the demise of Isaac promise as a great lost to Nigeria.
The minister stated this via his twitter handle yesterday.
“I have just been briefed on the sudden and sad demise of former U-23 Captain and Nigerian international footballer, Issac Promise. He was 31. May his energetic soul rest in peace & may his family, friends & teammates find comfort.” Dare wrote.
Nigerians in America are yet to get over the loss of ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Isaac Promise, after his club side Austin Bold confirmed his passing away on Wednesday evening.
Nigerians who reside around the same area with the late player couldn’t hide their pain and shock at the sudden death of the former U-23 captain.
Segun Arigbanla, who resides in Denton, Dallas Texas, said it was hard to believe that Promise was gone.
“It is unbelievable that Isaac Promise has gone, I heard about it in the area because he stayed close to my house and I thought it was a joke. Rest in peace Isaac,” Segun said.
Obi from Dallas simply said, “What a loss to football world. Rest on Isaac Promise.”
“I was shocked and dumfounded to hear the sad news about the passing away of Isaac Promise,” Nathaniel from Austin, Texas.
Another Nigerian, Kingsley, who resides in Arlington, also mourned the 31-year-old while sending his condolences to the family.
“Isaac Promise good night and continue to rest in the bosom of the most High God. My condolences to the family of Promise.
