KWSG to rehabilitate Oko Olowo-Eyenkorin road

The Kwara State Government has concluded arrangement to rehabilitate two federal roads that are badly damaged in the state in order to ease human and vehicular movement.
The road include about 300 metres portion along Oko Olowo-Eyenkorin axis and the Ohan bridge in Alapa Asa local government of Kwara State linking Moro, Kaiama and Igbeti road in Oyo State.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya made the disclosure during an inspection of the damaged portions of the aforementioned roads, stressing that the projects have been abandoned by the Federal Government few years ago.
He said ” I’m happy that you can refer to history that every year we use to come to intervene on this Ohan bridge not once nor twice depending on the strength of the bridge.
“The bridge you know is not a concrete bridge hence it needs maintenance. That’s why we are here to ensure that maintenance is done to provide succour to our people.
The commissioner stressed that the state government has notified the Federal Government on the construction of the Ohan and Moro bridges and the contracts have been awarded but abandoned by the contractors.
He said, “We have reported the situation to the federal controller of Works in the state that the contractors are not on site and the need for him to take action but no positive response yet.
” I want to assure you that intervention by the state government will begin on Saturday. We have paid the vendor or sub- contractor and he promised to commence work.
Yahaya noted that the conditions of roads nationwide is a disaster therefore imploring governments at all levels on road infrastructures, because it is a catalyst for industrial development.
