Beyond marketing Nollywood movies, the Chief Executive Officer of Almaroof Standard Investment, Alh. Almaroof Ekundayo Afolayan may have found new love in politics ahead of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
Speaking with our reporter on Tuesday, the ace movie marketer said that the time is right for him to show interest in Kwara Politics, especially as it concerns the welfare of his people.
Afolayan, who is scheduled to be installed as the Oloba of Ejuland on August 22, 2018, said politics is all about providing the right leadership for the people, especially those at the grassroots.
According to him, he could no longer afford to sit on the fence and watch things happen.
โHaving come this far in business, I have decided to take the front row in Kwara politics. Joining the politics of my state does not necessarily mean that I have to vie for any position but it is my utmost desire to see to the wellbeing of the people of Kwara South, in terms of who gets what and provision of infrastructure.
โMore importantly, I am already negotiating with some of my associates to see how we can create employment and empowerment opportunities for our teeming youths. With these, our youths can put their energy, knowledge and zeal into productive use rather than being used as political thugs or indulging in other social vices,โ Almaroof divulged.
Speaking further, the movie marketer who is also a property developer, pledged that he will lead the advocacy for voters’ registration in his area adding that the only way to disallow bad leaders from getting into office is for Nigerians to make their choice without financial inducement.
โAfter almost 20 years of uninterrupted democracy, it is quite distressing that we are yet to get it right in terms of the quality of those we vote for during elections.
โTo get it right this time, the first step is that every adult must ensure they get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to vote for the candidate of their choice. I am leading the PVC registration advocacy and I will be registering at Ajase-Ipo Ward IIย ย soon.ย ย When voting this time, political party should not be a factor but the integrity and experience of the candidates contesting for various elective positions,โ he said.
In 2015, hip-hop artiste, Anthony Awotoye better known as Tony Tetuila contested to represent Irepodun Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly.
