Members of All Progressive Party (APC), youth wing in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have kicked against what they described as planned imposition of caretaker chairmen for Local Governments in the state.
In an open letter to the state Governor, Mallam Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman signed by Comrade Yahya Jibril, Ndako Adam, Abdullahi Manko,Usman Mayaki and Alhaji Mahmud Lafiagi and made available to National Pilot on Saturday, the aggrieved youth called for democratic process.
The letter reads: ” Our attention has been drawn to the ill motivated and surreptitious clamour for imposition of illegal Caretaker Chairmen across the Local Governments in the State
“We, the concerned Youths and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edu Local Government condemn such illegal contraption within the current democratic space
“We are particularly aware of the plan to impose a complete illiterate on the good people of our Local Government for the sole aim of serving selfish purposes
“We are using this medium to call on His Excellency to tow the path of peace and allow democratic principles to prevail instead of an unpopular imposition
“We strongly believe that a viable option is to maintain the status quo while consulting widely with APC stakeholders on how to ensure a smooth and transparent process that will lead to enthronement of people’s choices at the Local Government through elections
“Anything short of this will be a recipe for disaster and we will not be in support of such actions
“We believe that as a Governor that rode on the popular “Otoge” mandate of the Party, the interest of the people shall remain paramount to Your Excellency and not the parochial interest of anyone
“We pray that Allah shall continue to guide Your Excellency to do good in the interest of State.”
