JAAC: Kwara LGs share N706m for Oct

The 16 local government areas of Kwara State have shared a total sum of N706,695,257.63 as distributable amount for the month of October, 2018.
This was disclosed by the state Secretary, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar Bata during the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting held at Ilorin, on Tuesday.
He said all categories of workers in the 16 local government areas of Kwara State will receive full salaries for the month of October.
Bata who is also the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area stressed that the councils chairmen have agreed to step down their running cost for the month to enable them receive full salary for this month.
According to him, due to the short fall from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) the Local Government Areas may not be able to implement staff promotion this month.
He said that State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) teachers got N1,061,680,316.09 billion from October allocation.
Bata emphasised that the LG and Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) pension stood at N473,828,121.49, revealing that 10 per cent Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from state government, stood at N40,283,537.47 and Value Added Tax (VAT) N417,241,175.57 were also shared.
He said the statutory allocation for the month of October stood at N2,068,120,432.93 as against N2,158,720,992.55 in the previous month.
The Secretary noted that the fund was appropriated in line with the law guiding the local government accountm which included Teachers Salary(SUBEB) N1,061,680,316.09;LG and LGEA pension N473,828,121.49 among others.
He explained that the distribution of the allocations among the Local Government Councils in the state was done in accordance with section 4(2) of the state Joint Local Government Account Law (cap80) as amended by Law 15 of 2001.
“The fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account. JAAC is an assembly of 16 Local Government chairmen without the inference of state government”, he stated.
Also speaking, the Deputy President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE), Comrade Oloruntade Ibikunle appealed to workers to cooperate with the Local Government chairmen on the issue of promotion implementation this month.
According to him, the shortfall from federation account has affected a lot of things in councils.
Oloruntade, who is also Secretary of the Promotion implementation Committee .
He urged the workers to cooperate with the state government for peace and unity to reign, adding that they have presented their demands to the government and have been assured that all of it would be addressed appropriately.
