Barely a month to his passing out as a corps member serving in Kwara State, Allwell Daniel, had his life cut short after alleged brief battle with malaria.

According to the post shared on NYSC forum on Facebook, the young man who was due to round up his service year in December, was said to have complained of headache before his death on Tuesday.

The post which attracted a lot of comments by the deceased’s colleagues and sympathisers however did not indicate whether he was taken to the hospital for treatment prior to his tragic passing.

This medium gathered that the deceased, who is serving in Asa Local Government Area of the state travelled to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, last week to spend time with his relatives, without the knowledge of his supervisor.

Speaking with our reporter last night, the Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Esther Tosin Kupolati described the news of Daniel’s passing as shocking and unfortunate.

“When we heard about the unfortunate incident, we looked into the file of the deceased and we were able to get the mobile contact of his next-of-kin who we contacted immediately.

“It was his relatives that informed us that he left his post for Port Harcourt last week and that he complained of headache before his passing,” Kupolati stated.

When asked whether Daniel showed any sign of illness in the past, the NYSC coordinator said, “If he had been falling ill before know, I would have been informed but there was never any trace of him falling ill for the past 10 months that he has been with us.”

The death of Daniel is coming barely six months after another corps member, Miss Hilda Eva Amadi reportedly died at the NYSC orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State after reportedly suffering bone fracture.

The graduate of Oil and Gas Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she hailed from died on April 23, 2018.
