Ashamed, day judge sent me out of Court for wearing mufti
Anthonia Oshiniwe first attended Kwara State Polytechnic for Diploma in Law from 2000 to 2002, she obtained Higher National Diploma Certificate in Public Administration in the same institution from 2003 to 2005. Afterwards, she proceeded to the University of Ilorin for her Ph.D in 2005 and bagged the certificate in 2007. She had her Masters Degree in Strategic Studies also from University of Ilorin between 2007 and 2009. Oshiniwe, however, studied Law in 2012 at the same University and graduated in 2016. She went to the Nigerian Law School in 2017 and was called to Bar that same year. She isย ย currently a strong member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kwara state branch and the CEO of Theios CareGiver Initiatives. She shares with our JUDICIARY CORRESPONDENT, KAYODE ADEOTI, her unforgettable moment in court as a lawyer. Excerpts:
I cannot forget the day I was supposed to be in court but my client said he was not interested in the case again so, I dressed to court in mufti, in fact, in a trouser suit. Immediately I entered the court, the magistrate looked at me and asked, ‘are you not supposed to appear before me today? I couldnโt reply because I was confused. I followed him to his Chamber and explained to him that I was not prepared to appear because my client said he’s not interested in the case again.
However, the magistrate queried my dressing because I was putting on big earrings, trouser as if I had a party to attend… Later, he ordered me to go and change the dress, unfortunately, I don’t have a skirt in my office and I informed him so but he insisted that I must appear.
So, I had to go back home and when I entered the court, I had forgotten to remove the socks I initially wore with my trouser suit, the magistrate was just looking at me like a clown, I looked so unprepared because I had to rush.
