Stephen quits Real Salt Lake after 3 years

 

Sunday Stephen has ended his three-year spell at his Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The one-cap Super Eagles midfielder, Stephen, who joined the MLS side, Real Salt Lake in January 2016 from Turkish side Alanyaspor declined to extend his deal after the club refused to increase his wages.
Stephen’s earns $288,000, per year at the club according to the MLS Players Association.
โ€œThey don’t want me,โ€ Stephen told The Salt Lake Tribune. I cannot play where they don’t want me.โ€
โ€œI’m happy that I’m leaving.โ€
Stephen, however, told The Salt Lake Tribune that he would like to stay in the United States to continue his soccer career.
โ€œIt all depends on what they offer me,โ€ Sunny told The Salt Lake Tribune.
โ€œI have a family. I have to think about them.โ€
He also took to Twitter to thank the club following his departure from the club.
โ€I had a wonderful 3years with RSL. A farewell great team, great people. Wish you all the best in the coming season,โ€ he posted on Twitter.
The 30-year-old previously featured for PolideportivoEjido, Valencia, Osasuna, Betis, Numancia, BneiSakhnin, CSKA Sofia and Alanyaspor before Real Salt Lake.
He scored a goal and had three assists in 59 regular-season games (49 starts) in his entire career at RSL.
He appeared in three total playoff games โ€” one in 2016 and two in 2018 โ€” and started in two of them.
