By Mumini Abdulkareem
Following the nod by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political campaigns to officially commence across the country, the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party will tomorrow (Tuesday) flag-off its campaign for the governorship election scheduled to take place in March.
According to Head of the Media Unit of the PDP campaign council, Bode Ojomu who confirmed the event to National Pilot, the flag off which has been scheduled for Bode-Sadu in Moro Local Government, will commence 11am.
He said dignitaries expected at the event included the Senate President and National Leader of the party, Dr Bukola Saraki among other party leaders and members from within and outside the state.
Speaking on the choice of Kwara North, the Director-General, Mandate 2019 and former minister of National Planning, Prof Suleiman Abubakar said the party want to give every region of the state a sense of belonging in line with its slogan of power to the people.
โWe did the presidential flag off held in Kwara Central, we believe Kwara is not about Kwara Central alone hence we opted to have the governorship flag off in other parts of the state. We suggested Moro specifically for strategic reason because it is not far from the central, north and south.
โIt will give our people sense of belonging and also give everybody fair share in the inclusivity in the electioneering process and because of the centrality of the place,โ Abubakar added.
The PDP recently inaugurated a 50-man campaign committee at an elaborate ceremony held at the ABS Constituency office, Olorunsogo, Ilorin. The event was attended by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.
…753 dump APC for PDP in Alanamu
By Mumini Abdulkareem
Scores of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday in Alanamu, Ilorin West Local Government Area dumped the party for the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.
Addressing the decampees during a special prayer organised by the Sapala zone of the PDP in Alanamu ward under the leadership of former chief press secretary during the tenure of former Governor Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Mas’ud Adebimpe, the Director General of the Mandate 2019 campaign, Prof Suleiman Abubakar, saluted their courage and conviction to join the Saraki political dynasty.
Abubakar, who stated that he used to be the face of the opposition against Saraki in the state, said his decision to join the PDP and work with the Senate President is instructive enough that the current APC leadership has nothing than despair to offer Kwara.
According to him, although Dr Bukola Saraki is not perfect, his imperfections, which is an attribute of every human being, is far better than the best leadership those in the opposition can offer Kwarans.
โThis community is one that is based and nurtured on our rich religious heritage and history. As a former opposition member who have wined and dined with these so-called opposition members, I can tell you they have nothing to offer the people of Kwara.
โWhat we should ask them is that what they have done for the people of the community in whatever capacity since they have been in Ilorin to show appreciation for the wealth Allah gave them.
โWe are not saying our leader, Dr Bukola Saraki is perfect, but he is far better than any perceived goodies we think those who called themselves opposition can offer. Saraki has consistently demonstrated that he is a better leader and when we join hands with him to address some of the issues we complained about, things will be better and the state will be better for it,โ Abubakar added.
In his remarks, Alhaji Adebimpe said Saraki has shown that he is passionate about the development of Alanamu and the state in general.
He however urged the people to continue to support the leadership of Saraki for more dividends of democracy in the area.
Adebimpe who assured the decampees that they have taken the right decision added that the opposition have demonstrated with their campaign slogan that they are bereft of ideas to govern the state.
Present at the event were; the Special Assistant to Saraki on Special Duties, Alhaji Ali Olola, Arc. Yunus Alawo, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Abosioyoyan and Abdulrasaq Aladie among others.
