2 Nabbed for robbery, possession of firearm in Ilorin
Two suspects, Olarewaju Jimoh and Rotimi Bolade have been arrested for allegedly being in possession of pump action gun.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) at their hideout, No 28 Alangua Street, Gaa-Akanbi, Ilorin, penultimate week.
According to a police source, “The command received information penultimate Wednesday that some suspected armed robbers converged on Alangua Street in Gaa-Akanbi area.
“On the strength of the information, a team of operatives from F-SARS swung into action and invaded the area.
“In the process, Olanrewaju Jimoh and Rotimi Bolade were nabbed while the suspected kingpin of the gang, Kayode Salawudeen, escaped arrest and currently at large.
“The operatives conducted a search on the suspects and one English made pump action gun with No.331539 loaded with four rounds of live cartridges was recovered.”
It was learnt that a large quantity of Indian hemp was also found on the suspects at the time of arrest.
The source added, “In the course of interrogation at the F-SARS command office, the suspects confessed that they were perfecting plan on a robbery attack when they were arrested.
“The suspects are currently working with the security operatives for the arrest of the kingpin and other members of the gang,” he said.
The source, however, further disclosed that Bolade attempted to escape from custody while in police detention, last Tuesday.
Efforts to get the police spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to speak on the development proved abortive as calls and text messages to his mobile phone were neither picked nor responded to at the time of filing this report.
