Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed will today (Thursday) present the budget to the state House of Assembly for the 2019 fiscal year for approval.
The budget initially scheduled to be presented on Tuesday was suspended.
Speaking with our reporter yesterday, the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Odewale stated that this year’s budget will focus on revenue derivation from land assets.
He explained that the Executive Governor is looking at creating more areas of revenue generation in addition to the Internally Generated Revenue from the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).
According to him, from the 2018 budget, the state government recorded a performance of 61 per cent in terms of infrastructure, education, water resources, agriculture and social development, to stimulate economic growth through investment inflow.
He said, “the Governor wants to open another area through land assets and tourism that will serve as sources of income to finance the 2019 budget.
The Commissioner noted that the postponement of the budget from Tuesday to Thursday was a result of demand made by the state House of Assembly to allow their members return from their constituencies and to allow all the stakeholders and traditional rulers to witness the presentation.
