WAFU U-20: Ex-ABS star, Alalade unsung as Flying Eagles defeat Ghana

Nigeria yesterday, qualified for the semi final of the WAFU U-20 Cup tournament with a 4-2 win over arch rivals, Ghana.
The game was a great improvement from the Flying Eagles who had earlier put up a lack lustre performance against Niger.
It was the Black Satellites who shot into the lead courtesy of Toku in the 28th minute but the set-back did not deter Paul Aigbogun side as they attacked in numbers.
The Flying Eagles restored parity a minute from half time through Enyimba youngster, Maxwell Michael. His shot was too powerful for the Ghanaian goalkeeper, Frederick Asare to prevent.
Upon resumption of the second half, Ghana kept the heat on Nigeria but Amankonah missed a brilliant opportunity to increase the tally for Ghana.
The introduction of Adeshina Issa Gata added more impetus to the attack of the Flying Eagles as they pressed their opponent at will.
In the 77th minute, it was Abubakar Ibrahim who converted a spot kick to put Nigeria in front after an infringement in the opponent’s box.
Former ABS player, Wasiu Alalade grabbled the third goal before Effiom completed his brace to make the score line 4-1.
Toku also got his second of the match by reducing the deficit in stoppage time.
Two goals hero, Effiom was voted the Man of the Match.
