Man defrauds car dealer N14m, donates vehicle to church

 

A 39-yr-old man, Chris Okafor will soon be prosecuted following his arrest by the police for defrauding a car dealer, whose identity could not be ascertained, of N14m in Ilorin, Kwara State.
It was gathered that the suspect who claimed to be a contractor with Julius Berger in Abuja approached a car dealer in Sawmill area, Ilorin and purchased two vehicles valued at N14m on credit.
He was said to have donated one of the vehicles, a coaster bus valued at N14m to St. James Catholic church, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin.
It was further gathered that the suspected fraudster had secured accommodation in a catholic church on the pretext of seeking spiritual assistance, sometime in October, this year.
According to a police source, ” Okafor sometimes in October this year went to St. James Catholic church, Kabba road, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin.
“The suspect introduced himself as a contractor working with Julius Berger in Abuja to Rev. Father Felix Okoro of the church.
“The suspect was accommodated in the church. During the church’s annual harvest and bazzar, he made a verbal pledge of N30m and donated a coaster bus valued at N10,000,000 to the church.”
It was further gathered that the car dealer reported the case to the police and the suspect was arrested subsequently.
“The case was transferred to Police headquarters at department of anti-kidnapping squad for further investigation.
“The suspect, who confessed to be a serial fraudster disclosed that he came down to Ilorin to defraud people.
The source disclosed that investigation into the matter is ongoing and the suspects charged to court soon.
The state Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi when contacted said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.
