A motorcycle thief was on Tuesday knocked down in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, by a vehicle while trying to escape arrest.
The incident occurred along Muritala Mohammed road in the afternoon as the suspect who should be in his late 20s snatched a motorcycle from an okada rider at the popular Challenge area and escaped with it.
However, he ran out of luck as a moving vehicle knocked him down and broke his right leg at Murtala Mohammed road.
The suspect, who said he committed the crime to raise funds for his proposed marriage, a week from now was left unconscious after the incident and he pretended not to remember his name.
He was however fortunate not to be set ablaze by the angry mob following the timely arrival of men of the Kwara State Police Command.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident saying, “Yes, I am aware. He was seriously beaten and taken to the hospital for treatment by officers of the ‘A’ Division.”
