Drug Abuse: F-SARS nabs 8 in Ilorin

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (F-SARS) of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested three suspects for drug abuse in Ilorin, penultimate Monday.
The suspects are Lukman Abdulrahman, Zakari Yakub and Moses Samuel, who were arrested at a popular hotel along Coca-Cola road.
According to a police source, “We got tips that hoodlums numbering about 40 gathered at a popular hotel along Coca-Cola road, Ilorin and were smoking Indian hemp and also taking a hard drug, Rypnol.
“On the strength of the information, a team of SARS operatives led by Inspector James Adeniyi swung into action and stormed the area, “he further said.
It was gathered that the hoodlums on sighting the security agents took to their heels, adding that the operatives were able to arrest three after giving them a hot chase.
It was further gathered that the operative recovered large volume of hard drugs and Indian hemp from the hotel.
The police source said that the arrested suspects confessed to be drug addicts and do not have regular sources of livelihood when they were interrogated at the police station.
“Effort is ongoing to get the suspect to reveal identities and hideout of other members of their gang for possible arrest,” the source added.
In a related development, five suspected drug addicts will soon be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) command.
The suspects are Akeem Bolaji, Ahmed Musa, Olarinde Mohammed, Bola Akanbi and Temitope Awe.
They were apprehended by operatives of F-SARS at a hotel in the Flower garden area of Ilorin.
Pilot Crime learnt that the suspects were arrested by a team led by Supol Ademola Oyesunle following tip off.
When contacted on the case, the State police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said the suspects will  be charged to court soon.


…arrest man for stealing N1m in bank

A man, Abdulrahman Abdulmalik has been nabbed for stealing the sum of N1m from within the premises of a bank in Ilorin, Kwara State, recently.
It was learnt that the suspect was apprehended by the security agents while trying to escape arrest.
According to police source, the victim had gone to GTBank, Tanke branch to withdraw the money on behalf of Duravil company to pay the labourers for the day’s wage.
“He left for Sterling Bank at Muritala way for another transaction and left the N1m money under the car seat before going into the banking hall.
“While he was still in the banking hall, a security informed him that two people had forced his car opened.
“By the time he rushed out the suspects had taken to their heels. The bank’s security personnel raised the alarm that attracted people within the vicinity and the duo were given a hot chase.
“In the process, one of the suspects was arrested and the sum of N874,000 was recovered from him while his accomplice escaped.
The source added that the suspect was taken to F-SARS command for interrogation where he confessed to the crime.
“He revealed the identity of his accomplice as Abubakar Ibrahim from Nasarawa State. Abdulmalik explained that while they were being given a chase, Ibrahim took out of the money and threw into the air in order to distract his pursuers for him to escape.
“He confessed that they trailed the victim from GTBank at Tanke down to Sterling bank in Muritala, where they were discovered by the bank’s security men,” the source added.
When contacted on the case, the state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was not aware of the issue.
