Two watch guards, Sodiq Abdulazeez and Godwin Bayo are cooling their heels in police net over an alleged attempt to murder one Dr. Ebere Okereke in Ilorin, Kwara State recently.
Okereke, who resides in Water View Area, GRA was said to be preparing dinner for her family, when the security men entered her apartment on the pretext of carrying out electrical maintenance.
The suspects reportedly attacked the woman and gagged her mouth to prevent her from screaming to alert neighbours, before ordering her to give them money.
The security men were said to have tried to kill their victim when they realised she didn’t have money in the house.
It was learnt that in the process, the suspects dragged Okereke to the kitchen store, where they tried to suffocate her to death.
Fortunately for the woman, the watch guards were said to have quickly released her when they heard footsteps approaching the apartment and escaped through the backdoor.
It was further learnt that the case was reported at the Department State Security Service, which led to eventual arrest of the suspects.
They were later reportedly handed over to police and investigation was carried at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to confirm the incident proved abortive as calls to his mobile phone did not connect and text messages not responded to at the time of filing this report.
