NASU tasks FG on insecurity, unemployment

The Schools and Colleges Trade Council of Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has called on the Federal Government to address the lingering issues of the new minimum wage, security challenge and unemployment in the country.
This was contained in a communiqué signed by the Deputy President of the union, Alhaji Kareem Agunbiade at the end of the 6th regular meeting held in Delta State recently.
It reads, “The council in session frowned at the way and manner the Federal Government is dealing with the organised labour on the issue of the national minimum wage.
“The council called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene in the matter by doing the needful to ensure prompt resolution of the face-off with the labour union.”
The council lamented the seeming upsurge in the activities of herdsmen, armed robbery, kidnapping and resurgence of Boko Haram activities in some parts of the country.
It also condemned in strong terms the attitude of some states governors that are still abusing the release of the bailout funds from the FG to pay workers salary, pension and gratuity.
On corruption, the council called the FG to continue to publish the names of the nation’s looters who have voluntarily returned their loot.
According to the council, the unemployment rate is becoming unbearable as bile product of inadequate planning and inconsistency in the conduct of governance by successive leaders.
The council called on both federal and state governments to as matter of deliberate policy; create jobs in order to keep the youths off the streets.
The group added that it is disturbed that electricity distribution to most parts of the country is yet to attain appreciable stability despite improved power generation as promised by the FG.
