Olasehinde Adeseko earned his first degree in law from the University of Lagos in 1989 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. Subsequently, he had a stint of legal training with Effiong Bob, the former Attorney-General of Akwa Ibom State and presently, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Edo State. He joined the chambers of former Kwara State Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice, Olasupo Ashaolu & Co. in 1992. He is however the Principal Partner of Olasehinde Adeseko & Co. established in 1997, in the state capital. He shares with our JUDICIARY CORRESPONDENT, KAYODE ADEOTI, the most eventful experience he ever had in the legal practice. Excerpts:
The case I handled in the early 90s when I was still with my boss, Olasupo Ashaolu, SAN, to me, it was quite interesting and dramatic. It was a criminal case, a culpable homicide punishable with death. At that time, I was very new in the field. The case was presided over by Justice Orilonise now retired.
At the end of the trial on this matter, judgment was given against us. The case emanated from Odo-Owa in Kwara State, the deceased (victim), who was a trader was murdered by unknown persons.
In the course of the investigation, the accused persons were arrested and charged to court. Subsequently, the three accused persons were sentenced to death, as a young counsel, I became adversely demoralised as I constantly reflect on the death sentence. I wondered how someone I had defended passionately will just dieโฆ
I learned from this case that once a counsel is diligent in a case, he should not be discouraged, even if the outcome of the matter turned out to be a bitter pill.
