2019: Moves to recall me, political gang up – KWHA Leader

By Mumini Abdulkareem

Some members of Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun constituency in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State said they have commenced the recall process of the Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, for alleged underperformance.

But the lawmaker, who decried the action, described the recall attempt as a gang up aimed at discrediting his political image and career for any future elective aspirations.

He said his people were aware of his empowerment activities and were not complaining, adding that the plot had already failed even before it started.

The lawmaker described the allegations against him and action of the people as a gang up by some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area to discredit his political figure.

Oyeleke, who said that the executive arm of government was in charge of project implementation in various parts of the state, added that his people were aware of his empowerment activities and thus they were not complaining.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which had the statutory rights to implement such political process, had also not spoken about the move.

Speaking on the recall process, the group claimed that they have notified the local INEC office in Offa about the incident.

In a statement signed by Hon. Mufutau Adeyemo, Alhaji Dauda Azeez, Murtala Taofik, Abdulsalam Murtala, Issa Aminullah among others, on Tuesday, the group alleged that the lawmaker had not adequately represented his constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

They also said Oyeleke had not initiated or supported any motion in line with his campaign promises, adding that the lawmaker has failed to influence any constituency project to the area since his first term in the House in 2011 till date.

In addition, they said Oyeleke had only through joint efforts embarked on empowerment programme in which he distributed exercise books valued at N350,000 to students of the area in 2012 and 2017. They also pointed out that the lawmaker had done nothing in the areas of agriculture, health and job creation or supported any motion in favour of the area.

The lawmaker was also accused of reneging on his promise to reclaim the people’s land that had reportedly been taken away from Offa, a development which to them had become contentious.

They also alleged that the activities of the lawmaker during the last local government election in the state had caused party discord, disharmony and disunity among members of the ruling APC and electorate in the town.
